Enabling students in a digital age: Charlie Reisinger

Enabling students in a digital age: Charlie Reisinger

This is a really interesting talk by Charlie Reisinger
and how they have used opensource software and
students to roll out their laptops.  I was really impressed with
the trust that they have given to the students (every student has
administrator privileges on their device and they are able
to update, install, etc) and how the students became involved
and were part of the process.  This to me is a great learning
experience for the students!
Well Done!!

Office 365 Provisioning Guide

Office 365 Provisioning Guide

This is absolutely great.
Although we as a school have already set this up last year, I do
wish that we had this guide to assist us.  It really would have made life
a great deal easier for us.  I really like the fact that every step is written
and then has a picture of what it should look like!

Amusement Park Physics

Amusement Park Physics

This is a great interactive site that allows you to build various
amusement park rides.  Everything is based on the physics on
how well the rides will work.  Start off by creating a roller coaster
ride and then see if it will work.  If it does not work, it will give you
the  explanation of the problem and you can then go and fix it.

Walk around the park and see other places where you can go and
explore.  Have a look at the a bumper car ride.  You need to look at the
bumper cars and decide what will happen in different scenarios.

Build a fish interactive

Build a fish interactive

This is really incredible.
You need to design a fish that will be swimming on the reef.
You can choose the type of tail, mouth and colouring.
Based on that you need to see how long you can survive on the reef.
You can create a different fish when you have had enough
of the one you created.  Great for teaching adaptation for
animals and how animals can survive.

Very good!!

Playing the 3D-printed violin: Joanna Wronko

This is absolutely incredible.
This is part of a Tedx talk where Joanna Wronko plays
a violin that has been printed with a 3D printer.
Although she mentions that it is not identical and that the 3D
printed violin does not have the same resonance as the real violin,
I think it is actually awesome that the printed violin plays so well.!!

Brilliant!!

Kuddle Social Media

Kuddle Social Media

This is a great app for younger learners.
This is a free app similar to Instagram, but has more security.
Some of the key security issues are:
Their photos can’t be viewed or seen by others until the parent
approves the account via the email they receive.
Parents are notified every time a child posts a photo and every
time they add a friend.
Photos will appear only in approved friends’ feeds, and are not
geo-tagged so as not to reveal a child’s location.
There are no comments allowed on photos.
A nice feature is that learners can caption and even draw on
their own photos with provided  tools.
The learner's friends can only view and like those images,
but not respond with text.

Excellent

Recuva

Recuva

Recuva is a file recovery program that can search a
hard drive or a particular folder for deleted files
and attempt to restore them. The one nice thing about
Recuva is that you can specify the types of files that
you wish to recover and either scan a particular hard
drive or a particular folder.  If a file is able to be restored,
Recuva will list them and allow you to restore them.
