Mind Maps with MindMaple

Mind mapping can be a very useful tool for students when revising, or when planning a topic or a piece of writing.  The software feels very much like Microsoft Office 2010 with the use of the toolbar ribbon and it was very easy to get started.

Screenleap

Screenleap

Screenleap is a rather interesting website that lets you share your computer screen with anyone you want to for free. You go to the ScreenLeap website, click on the sharing button and the site will generate a URL. Share that URL with a friend and they’ll be able to see everything you do in a defined rectangular area. You can resize the rectangle to show all or just part of your screen.

PowerPoint Games and Other Game Templates

PowerPoint Games and Other Game Templates

University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Ed Games website hosts a variety of free PowerPoint,
Word, and Excel games that are really easy to use on your IWB to add quizzes to motivate your
students. Many of the games are easy for teachers to customize with their own content.

Once you have customized the game, you can save it for future use and also share it with other
colleagues.  There are also some games that are ready to use without any modification.
Many of the games replicate popular TV shows like Jeopardy and Pyramid

Unlike some PowerPoint games available on free the web, all of these games are trade mark
free and copyright clear. So you should have no worries about using trademarked or copyright
protected images and sounds without permission.

Infuse Learning

Infuse Learning

Infuse Learning is a new assessment service. It allows teachers to set up quizzes with pictures,  which the students can answer via any device which can connect to the internet – whether that’s a laptop, netbook, iPod, iPad or other tablet device. Like Socrative it is a fantastic addition to a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) classroom.

As well as the quizzes you can set up and save, you can also add Quick Assessment questions which can be given to the class at any point in a lesson. These can be quick True/False, Multiple Choice and Numeric answers and Likert Scale answers. There’s also the option for students to draw a picture as their response to a question, which is an interesting addition which would work well for students with touchscreen and tablet devices.

A Guided Tour Inside the International Space Station

A Guided Tour Inside the International Space Station

In this 25 minute video, former commander of the International Space Station,
Sunita Williams takes viewers on an in-depth tour of the International Space Station.
In the video you'll get the answers to almost everything you may have wondered about
regarding living in space for weeks or months at a time. Williams shows us the laboratories,
the space suits for space walks, the kitchen, and the sleeping quarters. Williams even shows
us the space station's "outhouse" and goes so far as to explain the different types of
toilet paper on the space station.
VERY COOL!!

Round pic

Round pic

If you are like me and it takes you a little while to take 20 pictures and then round the corners ...
This is an online tool for making anti-aliased rounded corners.  This is very easy to use and takes about 2 minutes from start to finish.  I also like the fact that you can have transparent rounds at the corners so that you can overlay on any colour!!
