Smart Notebook

Smart Notebook

Smartboard users will be interested to hear that SMART have announced the
release of the beta of  a web version of Smart Notebook Web.
This was previously known as Smart Notebook Express.

Now called  SMART Notebook Web, this allows you to access
Smart Notebook via your web browser with no need for any software to be installed.

The beta only allows files to be opened, there’s no Save facility just yet, but it
would let teachers and students interact with ready-made Smart Notebook files.

The interface resembles a cut down SMART 11.
There is a pen, highlight, shapes, and eraser.
No text tool just yet, which seems a bit of an omission, even for a beta.

A Parents' Guide to Facebook

A Parents' Guide to Facebook

Welcome to the fully updated 2012 edition of A Parents' Guide to Facebook (PDF)!
It’s designed to help you understand what Facebook is and how to use it safely.
With it, you will be better informed and able to communicate with young Facebook
users in your life more effectively.
That's important because 1) if something goes wrong, we want our children to come to us and
2) as the Internet becomes increasingly social and mobile, a parent’s guidance and support are ever more key to young people’s well-being in social media and technology.
The guidebook is published in partnership with the iKeepSafe Coalition.

The guide covers how to:

* Configure Facebook’s new timeline (what used to be called your profile)
* Review your activity log
Use the site's new in-line privacy tools
* Use Facebook’s “social reporting” tools to resolve problems
* Protect your online reputation
* Use Facebook Mobile safely
* And much more.

Timerrr

Timerrr

Timerrr.com offers two versions of their free countdown service.
The regular Timerrr displays a dial like my grandmother used to have on top of her stove.
The "egg timer" version displays an egg timer as the countdown device.
Both can be used to set a countdown of up to sixty minutes.

Online Egg Timer

Online Egg Timer
Online Egg Timer is a simple website offering three countdown timers on one screen.
You can set just one timer or run all three at the same time with different settings.
Just set the countdown timer(s) using the up and down arrows, then click "start timers.

Online Stopwatch

Online Stopwatch

Online Stopwatch is a free website that gives you the choice of a stopwatch function
or a countdown function. You can set the countdown timer for any length of time
and an alarm sounds when time is up.

Timer Pop

Timer Pop
Timer Pop allows you to create and save multiple timer settings.
For example, if I want to have a count down that lasts for five minutes,
a count down of fifteen minutes, and a count down of three minutes
I can save them all. Then when I need one of them I'll just click on it
to start the count down.

PBS Kids Cyberchase

PBS Kids Cyberchase

PBS Kids Cyberchase offers online and offline mathematics games
and activities. The collection of more than forty online games are designed
to make students think about patterns and use logic to solve challenges.
The offline activities use the same model, but are designed for hands-on
offline learning.

The highlight of the Cyberchase online activities are the "quest" activities
in which students have to solve problems as along a journey as they work toward
a goal. For example, in Mission Motherboard students have to solve problems to
earn money that they then use to buy parts to fix a motherboard. Not all of the
games are as time intensive as Mission Motherboard. A quick activity is the
Virtual Coin Flip. The Virtual Coin Flip teaches students a short lesson in
probability. There is a supplementary explanatory video to go along with each
game in the Cyberchase online activities.
