Nets (3D Models)

Nets 3D Models

This is great for any mathematics class.
Print out the pages, cut them out and then build the different shapes.
There are 13 different shapes in the zip file below.
Some of them are cones, prisms, cylinders, cubes and pyramids.

3D Shapes I know

3D Shapes I know

This is really cool for Foundation Phase and Grade 4.
A great little video that you can use to go through the main different 3D shapes.

Google Sketchup

Google Sketchup

I cannot believe I have not blogged about this before!!
I have been using this fir years in my class and the learners
absolutely love it.  I recently also showed this to the design and Tech
Teacher at our school and she has started using it in her classes as well!
It is a program that you can use, like CAD, to design and draw 3D models

Absolutely brilliant

3D Animations of Simple Machines

3D Animations of Simple Machines

Explain 3D is a free site that offers a small of collection of 3D animations of simple machines.
While the animations are free to view, you do have to register in order to see them.
The animations use the Unity web player which enables viewers to zoom-in, zoom-out,
and rotate animations 360 degrees.
Very cool!!

Shape Lab

Shape Lab

This is very good for younger learners.
This is a game that teaches properties of 2D and 3d shapes,
as well as lines of symmetry.

Paper Critters

Paper Critters

Design your own 3D 'Paper Critter' to share or print as a 3D net to glue together.
Great for maths and D&T.
This is very cool!!

Tinker Cad

Tinker Cad

Tinkercad allows you to build 3D models within your web browser.
Tinkercad provides pre-made pieces that you can assemble to build a model.
You can also select a model from the public gallery and edit it in your Tinkercad account.
If you create a free Tinkercad account you can save your work online.

The video below provides a great introduction to Tinkercad

Autodesk 123D

Autodesk 123D

123D Design from Autodesk allows you to create models by dragging pieces together
online then sending them to 123D Make where your models can be printed.
From those print-outs your students can construct their models.
Both 123D Design and 123D Make can be used online,
on iPads, and on Mac and Windows desktops.

2D and 3D shapes

2D and 3D shapes

This is a brilliant site for 2D, 3D shapes and nets.
It gives all the properties and you can also rotate the 3D objects!!

Faces, edges and vertices

Faces, edges and vertices

Complete the table below showing the properties of the shapes.
Very nice and easy to use!!

2D and 3D shapes

2D and 3D shapes

This is perfect for Foundation Phase.  Drag the following shapes and
categorize them into 2D and 3D shapes.
