Using Scratch 1.4 for Programming and Control
Lesson 1

Scratch is a free visual programming language developed by the MIT Media Lab.

Scratch was created to help young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically

and work collaboratively.

I have found that some teachers struggle with this, so here is a 16 page book to

give to students so that they can follow the book and learn how to code.

All the steps are included.

Lesson 1:

You will understand how to:

 Create a simple script that animates the sprite automatically

 Create a script that allows the user to control the movement of the sprite using

the arrow keys

 Combine the different scripts to work together on the same sprite

 Make the sprite reverse direction

 Edit the stage using the Paint Editor facility within Scratch

 Make the sprite react to the background

 Import a new sprite from the ones available within scratch

 Create and edit new costumes for an existing sprite

 Create a simple script that move the sprite automatically

 Create variables to set the score and the countdown

 Set a sprite to start in a certain position

 Save your work

Windows 8.1 Deployment Guide

This is a great manual on how to deploy Windows 8.1 on your computers at school.

It is really fantastic, as it gives you the different ways in which you can use to deploy,

as well as it gives you ways to use volume activation as well.

Problem Solving Assessment Pack

The Problem Solving Assessment Pack includes two tests,

a pretest and a post test, designed to help you assess

your students' math problem-solving abilities. The pretest

data will enable you to determine where to begin with your

problem-solving instruction; the post test data will help you

track their progress later. A unique feature of this test is that

Foldable Fortune Teller

This fun activity will not only keep your students engaged,

but will also help them review some of the most important

story terms. This foldable fortune teller can easily be folded

by your students, and they can use it take class notes or to

quiz each other on the most important elements of a story.

Microsoft 1 to 1 program

Although this book was written in 2010, I do believe that this is still valid.

the book covers planning, case studies, different ideas for project based learning,

lesson plans, as well as online resources.

I would highly recommend giving this a read!!

Alphabet Organizer

Alphabet Organizer is a great little tool from Read Write Think that students

can use to create alphabet charts and books. The idea behind Alphabet

Organizer is to help students make visual connections between letters of the

alphabet and the first letter of common words. This is accomplished by having

students choose a letter of the alphabet, write a word that begins with that letter,

then upload a picture that is representative of that word.

Alphabet Organizer allows students to create charts or simple booklets from the

words and pictures they've uploaded. Completed works can be saved as PDFs,

printed, or emailed to teachers.

Parts of Speech Flip book

This flip book is a great way to introduce, or review, parts of speech

with your learners. This booklet reviews nouns, verbs, adjectives, and

pronouns. There is an instructional cover-page, and write-in page, for

each part of speech.

This is a really great little program. It is also available on the app store.

As a free user you can create up to 10 pages.
You can create a book that has popups.
It is really easy to use and the learners in foundation phase really love it.
Have a look at the story I made above and click on all the aliens with an
exclamation on their head to read what they have to say.

There are so many free books that you can download

and read. It is ideal for younger learners, especially in

Foundation Phase. The free books have advertisements,

but are definitely worthwhile!!
